Preparing your garage door for winter.

Your garage door is the largest moving part in your entire house, and is often the main entry point to your home, getting used multiple times a day. With winter fast approaching, performing a few preventative maintenance tasks can help keep your garage door operating smoothly all season long.

Inspect The Door

Observe your door in action, watch your door go up and down looking for any jerking or shaking, listen for any unusual sounds such as grinding or scraping. Watching for anything unusual can be the first sign that something isn’t working properly

Lubricate The Moving Parts

Cold weather can cause your doors parts to stick. Evenly apply spray lubricant to all the moving parts of your door, this includes springs, rollers, tracks, bearings and hinges. This will ensure your door continues to open and close with ease all winter long.

Replace Or Fix Weather Stripping

Weather stripping can become dirty, loose, brittle or cracked preventing the door from sealing correctly. Cleaning or replacing it right away will ensure a proper seal that keeps the seasonal elements out.

Keep It Clean

Inspect the surface of your door, when dirt and debris build up it can decrease the lifespan of your door. Wash your garage door regularly, and check your sensors and track to make sure they are clean and free of debris.
